"I don't do 'youth worship'."
So, here it is. I am tired of those called to worship ministry seeing themselves as "beyond" helping in the youth or children's department, seeing youth or children's worship beneath them! I understand that some people are called to different ages and we must constantly seek the Lord as to what area of ministry we are supposed to be involved in, but it frustrates me to hear (over and over again) from those called to worship ministry (worship leaders, musicians, singers) talk down about youth ministry worship. Is the value of a youth encountering God in a worship service, not just as important to Jesus as an adult encountering Him? Some of the MOST powerful worship services I have ever been in, or a part of have been with teenagers and young adults! Are we called to serve people by leading them into worship, (regardless of age, audience, status & recognition), or what!? I have found that teenagers many times are even more open to learning what real, genuine worship is than many adults, and they tend to give all or nothing in their worship, not a half-hearted, pity worship that passifies the worship leader. I LOVE THAT about them! (Please hear my heart, I have been guilty of this myself...I am just saying that if we ever feel we are ever "too good" to serve the body of Christ with the gifts God has given us, than we need to check our motives for being in worship ministry altogether.) It should never be what we get "get out of a worship service, but what He does.) Matt 25:40 "Whatever you did for one of the least of these...you did for me."
