Jesus
Last night was our first service in the University of Florida University Auditorium and I was SO honored to be able to worship with this incredible team! For those of you who don't know, we have been trying to get into UF for years but the doors just kept closing until recently. Through a series of miraculous events, we were able to start a service on Sunday nights in the Beautiful University Auditorium on campus! We launched our first service last night and over 450 people showed up and tons gave their hearts to The Lord! Some were even baptised in a fountain after the service! What prompted me to post this blog , was the picture below that one of our awesome and talented sound guys posted of the very beginning of service last night.
Not only was just about every song about Jesus, specifically lifting him up, but when our very charismatic and very loved pastor came up to speak, he asked us all to bow before "Jesus" and take a minute and pray and thank him for what he was doing and had done in our lives.
I was so impressed yet again with the character of our pastor (that he would shift the focus off of himself and keep it on Jesus.) at such a critical moment. I was also moved by how "Christ centred" the worship was. In a culture where it definitely is not the popular thing to speak the name of Jesus as the only way to salvation, our church and our pastors passionately do. With no shame. In a church culture where it is acceptable to sugar coat the gospel and tone down the message in our worship songs, our worship leaders don't. And in a culture where people understand the need for our "personal rest time" on the weekends, our church volunteers gave their all to set up, serve, and tear down after service.
