Happy Three Kings Day!

Happy Three Kings Day!

Today is Three Kings Day which concludes the ending of the 12 Days of Christmas!

It was so special at Christmastime hearing my mother in law tell the kids all about how in Cuba, where she grew up, they didn’t celebrate Christmas, but instead celebrated Three Kings Day.  They would wake up and have a gift underneath their beds!  A gift.  One gift. My kids found this humbling.  So did I.

Three King’s Day is the day the wise men came to bring Jesus their gifts after their long journey.

Thinking a lot about the wiseman today. I find it fascinating that they followed the instruction they had received in a dream to not to return to Herod, even though Herod was powerful & known for being violently willing to secure his thrown.

They may or may not have known that Herod was going to try to kill the baby boy, but either way, I find it impressive that they chose obedience over fear.

Herod was obviously grotesquely evil.  (I mean Herod has all the male babies murdered in Bethlehem and the surrounding areas after this! Yikes!) That’s the man they were choosing to defy!

I wonder what would have happened if they had let fear win out?

Would Jesus have been killed as an infant?  Would Mary & Joseph not raised the Savior of the world?  Would there have been another Savior to save us?

From what we know about the wise men, they were intelligent, but there’s no evidence that they were superhuman. They were just like you & me. They could have chosen to make a different decision.

Check your life today and make sure you’re not so caught up in trying to understand the “whys” behind God’s decisions & commands, that you make a decision that could alter the course of history. Maybe you’re history, maybe the people around you’s history, maybe the history of the world, who knows?

As believers, we are called to obey, not understand and not  make decisions out of fear of what man can do to us.  We truly never know what tomorrow holds.

Be sensitive to the spirit, be watchful like the wiseman were, & be ready when the king returns.

Much love & blessings,

Tam
