Freedom + Connection. It’s WHY we homeschool!
We have different reasons for homeschooling all of our kids + the why has changed over the years.
One thing is constant though, the freedom we have in tailoring their education to meet THEIR needs + at their pace is huge! We aren’t trying to keep up with the Jones’, we don’t need our kids to feel pressured to perform better than their friends, or memorize facts to score well on a test. We take the pressure off + keep life simple for as long as we can.
We have freedom to choose what our kids spend their days learning about. For us that means freedom to incorporate God into every subject + natural conversations all day long.
For us, life is learning.
Everyday since the moment my kids were born we innately taught them things. This has been a natural progression as they started school. (I just use a teacher guide to help me not leave out stuff!)
Also, being youth pastors for many years homeschooling gave us freedom to go on youth trips, stay out late on youth nights + go visit family (like in this picture) when everyone else was in school. It means we don’t fight crowds at museums, zoos, parks + our favorite-the beach!
My favorite reason we homeschool is connection.
I enjoy my kids + we have so many memories together. We study the Bible + learn about God together. We go on grand adventures snuggling together reading a great book, we have inside jokes + funny memories of failed Science projects + awkward homeschool kids we’ve encountered. 😜
When you spend your life with people you form connections + my prayer is that those connections, those memories will bond us for life.
Long after the homeschool books are sold + the kitchen table stays clean.
Most of all, it is a specific tugging on our hearts from the Lord. There’s no going around that. I know it’s not for everyone. It’s a calling, one that I never saw coming, but I’m so glad I said “Yes” to!
